Martha Rodriguez, Kumeyaay - experienced potter, basket weaver, artist, and educator, will conduct a class on how to make pottery: from raw clay to the students taking home a small olla.make your own Kumeyaay olla

The event will include -
  • Martha’s description of her pottery collection, letting the class know what to expect for the day; .
  • Grind the raw clay, and mix with water.
  • Martha demonstrates how to make an a olla.
  • With Martha’s guidance, class members will each make a medium size non fired olla to take home.

Students need to wear clothes that can get dirty, and bring a bandana to wear to prevent breathing in dust. Students will
also need to bring a bucket to mix the clay and then to carry home the damp olla.
